LEVEL UP YOUR POTENTIAL - Manager Edition Activities

Below you will find group activities that align with the Toolkit process and resources. These activities are designed to enhance your coaching efforts as you help employees develop their personal leadership skills. Feel free to adjust and adapt to meet the needs of your employees. Have fun!

REDISCOVER YOUR WHY

Your WHY is your purpose, your motivation. In module 1 your employee did some work to identify their WHY. This step asks them to revisit their WHY and who they want to be in 5 years.

Use this action step as a springboard to deeper conversations about leadership potential in your next one-on-one with your new employee.

If you want additional WHY activities, check out this partner activity from Simon Sinek.

MEASURE YOUR GROWTH

Helping new employees measure growth from multiple angles is a good way to help them gain perspective and tap into their strengths. In Module one they completed the https://azcorescore.com/ and Via Character Strengths Survey

In a coaching session, review their results and have a conversation about how they have grown. You can even have them retake each assessment to see what has changed and how their experience working on your team has helped them grow as a person, an employee and a leader.

SET NEW LEADERSHIP GOALS

Leadership isn’t about authority or being in charge. It’s about good decision making and the ability to communicate effectively with others. AND it’s about self-improvement. In this action step new employees are asked to set short-term SMART goals around one of the following leadership traits.

  • Being a Self-starter

  • Being Goal Oriented

  • Being Flexible

  • Decision Making

In your next one-on-one, you might review their SMART goal and discuss the progress they have made. Here’s a great video on goal setting and self-limiting behaviors.

MAP YOUR CAREER

Plans change. Interests change. So it’s always a good idea to re-evaluate plans--or make a plan if you don’t have one.

  • Check out this infographic on retail career options.

  • Then ask your employee to share the career map they created for this action step. Help them make connections between where they are now and where they want to be.
